Department of Sociology

About

Department of Sociology is located on the first floor of Faculty of Literature and humanities of University of Guilan. The Department of Sociology was established with the establishment of the Bachelor of Social Sciences in 1979, which continued for 11 courses until 1998. Since 1990 until now, a bachelor's degree in social sciences and since 1993 so far a master's degree in sociology has been established in this department. In 2021, this group succeeded in establishing a major in youth studies. Currently, the Department of Sociology has 14 full-time faculty members (including 7 associate professors and 7 assistant professors) and 435 students.
The Department of Sociology is composed of four subspecialties. Cultural sociology investigates the relationship between culture and society, historical sociology pays attention to the historical context of social and political structures, sociology of social issues focuses on the social pathology, and anthropology pays attention to the popular culture.

    The Department of Sociology helps to understand social life in Iran through research and teaching in its four specialized areas. With a deep understanding of new social science theories and the application of quantitative and qualitative research methods, we try to both contribute to the theoretical advancement of sociology and teach the students of this field the theoretical and practical skills necessary for sociology research and teaching.
