About

 
The department of music is located on the first floor of the Faculty of Arts and Architecture. The department was established in 2006 to support music performance, research and education related to musicology. The Department of Music consists of analysis, performance, anthropological and interdisciplinary studies. Currently, it has 8 full-time faculty members and 132 students.

Majors and Programs

The Department of Music offers 2 programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels:
1-    Iranian Music Performance in Bachelor degree.
2-    Ethnomusicology in Master degree.
In Iranian Music performance, students learn about theory, music history of Iran and world, sight singing, harmony and stuff like that and their skills in performance will be improve with playing Radif (important repertoire of Persian traditional music) and pieces. This program is established in 2006.
Ethnomusicology, the study of music as culture, aims at understanding how music from around the world works, what it means, and how it reflects, our human condition. Ethnomusicologists come from, and contribute to a variety of disciplines: music, cultural anthropology, folklore, performance, cultural, gender studies, studies, and other fields in the humanities and social sciences. This program is established in 2021.

Facilities and Equipment

  • Teaching

    Learning music is not only based on the knowledge itself, but also on how it is taught and studied. Here in the music department, professors teach music in various and practical ways such as lectures, seminars, small group learning, private classes, group work, etc. Also, due to the nature of music, students must work in every session.
  • Research

    Our faculty members are researchers and authors. They have published about 13 books and Articles based on Iranian Music, Composition, Ethnomusicology, Interdisciplinary Studies, Transcription, Folk Music, Poem, Music History, Music Theory and … . Also they have released Albums as a composer or player.
