The Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Guilan was established based on the memorandum of cooperation between Iran and Germany in 1974, offering a bachelor's degree under the Faculty of Humanities. This department became independent in 1995 and promoted its activities as the first physical education Faculty out of the capital city. The admission for postgraduate programs began in 1995 offering master's degree in physical education. The PhD program was launched in 2003 offering a PhD in Sport Physiology. Currently, this faculty has students in bachelor's, master's and PhD programs. Postgraduate courses consisting of Master's and PhD programs include four fields such as Sports Physiology, Sports Management, Sports Pathology and Corrective Movements and Sports Biomechanics.
