Department of of Solid Design

About

In the 180th session of the Higher Education Extension Council dated 12/25/1355, it was agreed to establish a mechanical engineering course in Guilan University. The admission of students in this field started from the academic year 1356-57 under the title of mechanical engineering. After the cultural revolution, students continued to be accepted in the field of mechanical engineering with fluid orientation from the academic year 1364-65, and in the field of mechanical engineering with the design of solids from the academic year 1371-72. With the development of the mechanical engineering department in educational and research dimensions, in 2017, a proposal was made to convert the department into a faculty. This proposal was approved by the Board of Trustees on 04/02/2013 and finally approved by the Development Council of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology on 09/19/2013. Since October 2016, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has officially and independently started working.

Facilities and Equipment

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has a suitable educational and research space including classroom, amphitheater, drawing studio, workshop and educational and research laboratories to carry out relevant work. With the completion of the building under construction, these spaces will be upgraded to the standard level. Currently, 4 educational workshops and 7 specialized laboratories are active in the faculty. Also, 9 research laboratories have been set up to conduct advanced and up-to-date research.
The foundational ideas of solid mechanics and materials are explored through experiments at the Solid Mechanics Laboratory that contain materials science, impact engineering, vibration and strength of materials labs. Testing of materials for tensile, compression, bending, and torsional loads, and vibrations are among the many subjects covered. Under the guidance of relevant rules and standards, students conduct mechanical testing on a range of machine components and structural elements to get knowledge of the many ways in which materials fail under various mechanical stress scenarios. They are also trained to collaborate in order to plan experimental protocols and successfully communicate the findings of their studies.

    Research activities
Authoring and translating more than 20 book titles and carrying out more than 50 research projects have been the result of the work of mechanical engineering professors and students since the beginning of their work. Also, the publication of scientific and research articles, articles in conventions and conferences, patents and other research activities have made the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering always one of the most successful and progressive faculties of Guilan University in the field of research.

    Future development
Currently, the main building of the faculty with the infrastructure of 8000 square meters is under construction. Launching a master's degree in mechatronics engineering, revising and updating courses and chapters, and increasing the number of faculty members are on the agenda of the faculty.
